2007- 2008 Season
- Week #28: February 29 - March 7, 2008
This week, we had 20 anglers on board who joined us from all around the
world! This great group of anglers (including 2 kids) caught 25 peacocks
over 20 pounds! Clark Bailey was a first timer to the Amazon but managed to
catch the largest peacock of the week weighing in at over 26 pounds!!!
Great job buddy! The week included many festivities such as beach luaus,
New Year's Eve party and many holiday themed celebrations! Check out this
group's pictures at: http://www.wetaline.com/gallery3/album04.
Customer Testimonial: "We just got back from a fantastic trip on the Amazon
Santana. This was my 15th trip to Brazil, but my first trip on the Santana.
Although the water level was a little high (and rising during the trip), we
had excellent fishing for big fish. For a group we caught 25 fish over 20
pounds with the biggest fish being a 26 pounder caught by first time Amazon
angler Clark Bailey. He has no idea what he accomplished. I went 7 trips
before I caught my first 20 pounder. I did catch my personal best with a 24
pounder. One day I only caught 3 fish all day, but what a day, a 16, 21 and
a 23 pounder. The number of fish was off probably due to the high water. I
fished top water exclusively with the woodchoppers in fire tiger, perch and
orange and black producing the best. Service, food and guides were excellent
on the Santana. I actually fished with my first guide I ever fished with on
the Rio Negro 14 years ago, Aloisio." - Bill Wagner

bounds!
See a testimonial below from the group leader:
"What a Trip to Remember! This was my 5th Expedition to the Amazon Basin
and by far the best all the way around. I couldn't ask for a better group of
anglers then we had. Everyone got along great, showed a lot of support and
cheering on their fellow anglers to catch a 20 LB. Trophy!!! The results
were perfect all 11 out of 11 got their Monster Amazon 20 lb. Peacock Bass.
Our most impressive day was 117 Peacock's. The week total was 545 and 1 out
of 4 was over 10 lb. We had 3 - 24.5 LB. 1 - 24 lb. and the other 16 were
from 20- 23.5 LB.
The New Yacht was fantastic, the cooking was excellent, the staff took care
of us like we were Kings & Queens. As far as the guides - they are "The
Best" in the Amazon. We macheted our way through creeks to get to lakes
within the jungle where the bigger fish are.
Wet-A-Line Tours spares no expense to find us the bigger fish and that's why
I go back with them year after year.
I had clients Ginny & Bob Irwin say, " We go on 4 vacations a year and this
is the best vacation we have ever been on".
I have to tip my hat to Rick & Amelia Schair and the Staff on the Amazon
Santana for making this a dream Fishing Vacation." - Frank Carbone

2005- 2006 Season
- December 28th, 2005 - January 6th 2006
Happy New Years Everyone!!!
Our inaugural voyage with the new yacht, The Amazon Santana, was outstanding! We were able to travel all the way up the Rio Negro to the Santa Isabel area. Just within our 1st day of fishing we had 3 fish that were over 20 pounds!!! The water levels are high for this time of year but we are fortunate to have the best guides in the Amazon and they were able to work their way back into private lakes and lagoons to find the big fish that were hiding! This week the new members of our 20 pound club were Mo Talley, Ben Wyker, Don Swanson, and Delbert Davis!!
We are pleased to annouce that we had such honored guests on board for this trip as Kim Bain (professional bass angler) with her mom, Lynn Bain as well as Jim Kern of The Emu Outfitting Company!!!
For New Year's Eve our boat staff decorated a beautiful beach of the Rio Negro for a Beach Luau! We had a fabulous buffet, drinks, fireworks, music and dancing, and more!!!
Also, 2 of our female customers: Jeanne Talley and Beth Baldwin had birthdays while on board so Harry (our maitre'd) and Juscelino (our boat manager) decorated the dining room special and made a fantastic dinner celebration for them!!! They truly made it a birthday party to remember!
On our last day of fishing, Delbert Davis caught a 24 pounder!!! (You can see pictures of it in our gallery: http://www.wetaline.com/gallery/New-Years-Inaugural-Voyage/Delberts_24_pounder_001)
The best baits for this week were:
- Black and Orange Woodchoppers
- Most all jerkbaits (when there was cloud cover)
- Clown Woodchopper
The new yacht was truly unbelievable for it's 1st week of operation! If you haven't checked out the photos of the new boat, the link for that gallery is: http://www.wetaline.com/gallery/The-brand-new-yacht%3A-THE-AMAZON-SANTANA

- November 30th - Dec 9th 2005
Many that follow peacock fishing in the Amazon know that water levels were changing in November and fishing was tough...so it is always great to receive a nice testimonial from a client that caught FIVE FISH OVER 20 lbs.!!!!
Hi Rick

Your staff on board were OUTSTANDING and the whole experience was first class, can't wait to get back!!!

- Week 3 - September 7th - 16th, 2005
Rick ........
Another fine trip aboard the Santana I. As always, Harry was wonderful. Juscelino was a great addition as new manager also. The food was even better than I remember it from a year ago. The new chefwas great. The addition of the beach barbecue on Tuesday night was a big hit although an awful lot of extra work for Harry, the cooks and crew. The food was great and it was fun to eat on the beach with candle light. Harry's service was impeccable never-the-less.
I managed to get a 20 and a 22 but my fishing partner kicked my butt with a 21 1/2 and a 22 1/2. I did catch the most fish, but always enjoy catching the big ones rather than a lot of smaller ones. Juscelino sent your ice vest back with me and I will get that off to you this week. Thanks again for another GREAT TRIP
Later ...... Darrell
- The Santana I is On The Move
After four good weeks with many really large fish the waters of the Madeira River are falling quickly. The yacht reports that this week the water is falling 8-10" a day! While the numbers in the 4th week of fishing were high, the size of the fish have dropped.
Our guide staff feel that it is time to be on the move! Everything in The Amazon River and its tributaries depends on the water levels.
Our customers fish with us year after year because they know that we will continually move to find the best fishing conditions possible. For this reason, we are moving north this week to The Rio Negro!
Stay tuned for this week's upcoming report.
Stay tuned for this weeks upcoming report.
- Successful Third Week With Lots of Trophies
WOW! The week three anglers, which included many celebrities from the fishing world such as Mary Anne Martin from Mary Anne and Roland Martins Marina on Lake Okechobee, Scott Martin the FLW Tour Pro, Ken Schultz of ESPN Bass Center and former Fishing Editor of Field and Stream Magazine, Phil Jensen from Luhr Jensen Lures and Outdoor Writers- Jeff Samsel and Ken Moran had a great week!
The first two days started off slow BUT the group had a total of over 1,300 fish with many trophies.
They had:
11 - 17 pounders
6 - 18 pounders
22 - 19 pounders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 - 20 pounders
5 - 21 pounders
4 - 23 pounders !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 - 24.5 pounders !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I continue to laugh when the competition says that there are no BIG FISH in the Madeira River system.
Great job guys. Send in those photos!!!!
Rick
- Successful Second Week - August 31st - Sept 9th, 2005
Another great early season week! This week, the entire boat was chartered by 3 VIP customers that had the boat all to themselves. They reported a great time fishing and relaxing. In fact, upon their return, they reserved the boat for the same week for the next five years!
While not being expert anglers and not fishing all day every day, they had three fish that weighed 20 pounds, three fish that weighed 21 pounds and two fish that weighed over 16 pounds. Great job fellas! Look forward to having your group with us again!
- Successful 1st Week's Voyage for the 2005-2006 Season -- August 24th - September 2nd, 2005
August 24th-September 2nd, 2005
We really had a great group for the first week of this year season. Many were repeat customers, some who have traveled with us 8 times in the past!
We started the week in the Abacaxi River and while we had several fish caught the 1st full day of fishing, my guide staff and I were not happy with the water color. So we steamed The Santana 1 all night to the Madeira River Region where we have always done so very well.
The first day there my wife, Amelia caught a 20 lb. peacock while filming with Don Sweet of Visual films......also I caught a Giant Pirarucu estimated at between 80-90 kgs!!!! The Monster hit a 7" Cordel Red fin and the fight was on. Little did I know then that it might have been a world line class record!
But the village that it fed will enjoy it for weeks to come.
On the 3rd-6th days of fishing several large fish were caught. A total of 6 - 20 lb.+ fish were caught in all, with several 17-19.5 lb. fish as well. I had big fish for the week on film that was right under 25 pounds (a picture is available in our media section under images).
Don Sweet of Visual Films catfished almost every evening with good success.
Hot lures for the week:
Four of the biggest fish were caught on 3/4 ounce chrome and blue rattletraps! Other trophies were caught on 7' Chrome Redfins and the new Woodchopper slim in it's new peacock color. Many fish were also caught on perch and black and orange woodchoppers and High Roller rip rollers in Peacock and perch colors.
The monster pirarucu was caught on a 7" Cordel Redfin!
The weather was very hot and we had no rain. The Santana 1 and it's staff were flawless as always.
